“They say Time is Money. I disagree. Time is Life. Spend yours Wisely.” Scott A. Miller

Hubs and I recently had the opportunity to attend a car show together. There was no admission fee but we did have to give up a little bit of sleep to attend. The show is called Caffeine and Octane and it is held the first Sunday of the month beginning at 8am. Anyone who knows me knows I don’t do mornings well and weekend early mornings are even harder for me to take, but in the spirit of sharing a Free Fun with Friends (FFwF) adventure, I was willing to make the sacrifice…

Caffeine and Octane History

Caffeine and Octane began in 2006 as a Saturday car show in Marietta, GA. Word of mouth among gear heads is pretty heavy when they find a good thing, and before long the show had to be moved from it’s location in Marietta to a space that could handle the growing event. The event is currently held in the parking lot of Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, GA. The event is the largest monthly car show in North America and attacts about 2,500 cars and 10,000 visitors each month. It is televised on the NBC Sports Network.

Seen and Heard…

Hubs and I arrived at around 8:30am the first Sunday in October and the place was already packed. Before we arrived at the show we already witnessed our first pull-overs. One poor guy hadn’t even gotten off the interstate and he was already getting a ticket. There was a heavy police presence throughout the venue although this warning was largely ignored…

A welcome sight greeted the visitors as they were walking into the venue. FREE COFFEE!! Yes, please! Thank you Cowfish!!

Caffeine in hand, it was time to make our way to the Octane! Looking out at what awaited was a little bit overwhelming-I was amazed at how many people were already there at such an early hour. Here are some of the highlights of what we saw…

A 1971 Fiat Spyder. Hubs and I had one when we first got married and Sonny’s first car ride was in that car. Before I was released from the hospital Hubs decided to surprise me with a Bentwood rocking chair as a gift. He put the top down, strapped it into the passenger seat, and drove it home. I wish I had a picture of that!

A Ford Grand Torino like the one used in the “Starsky and Hutch” TV series. The cast even signed the sun visor!

I’m happy to report that I was able to get OUT of this car (a Triumph TR-3) without any help. When I was VERY pregnant with Sonny I got into a new Corvette just because I wanted to. I could not get out. Hubs laughed. I’m glad I can laugh about it now…

A VW Sand Raid with a Hemi!! Who knew?

It was a fun morning spent with Hubs. He’s a motorhead and was in his element, to be sure. As for me, it’s nice to dream. I’ve had my eye on that Mustang for as long as I can remember! I hope you enjoyed reading about my little adventure. If you have any suggestions for free events I should be looking for, please let me know in the comments. Free events abound if you know where to look for them. Thanks!!

Be well and God Bless-until we meet again…
