“I walk so that little girls will grow up in a world where pink ribbons are for ponytails and prom dresses.” Pledge the Pink participant T-shirt

The second of the 2 long distance charity walks I participated in this past October was a new event, at least new to me. The history behind Pledge the Pink from their website:

“In 2011, Pledge the Pink (originally LoCo Motion), was a small, local, charity race—aimed at fighting cancer in South Carolina, and getting the lowcountry in shape. Now, we’re an ambitious, not-so-small, breast cancer event—one that’s pushed thousands of women off the couch, and given thousands of dollars to cancer treatment, research, and prevention. Our participants come from 48 states, and have logged a collective 168,328 miles. Together, we’ve raised almost a half-million for the cause. You’ll find us island-hopping every fall—walking, running, and crawling 30 miles, across three islands. There we wear pink, give sweaty hugs, build blisters, sing songs, and most importantly: save lives.”

This event is open to both runners and walkers and several of my friends had walked it before, told me what a great time they had, and talked me into joining them this year. Here’s a glimpse of my first Pledge The Pink experience…

I’m already registered for Pledge the Pink 2019 and I’m going to go out on a limb a little bit. Y’all are my witnesses and my accountability partners. Since this event allows running I’m going to train so that I can run one day of the 2019 Pledge the Pink. Walking with my friends is something I always enjoy and look forward to with events like this but if I’m ever going to get my running going again I need a goal to work towards. This will be it! I’m counting on y’all to keep me on the path!

Just one more…
